Calculating the area of a square is just like finding the area of a rectangle, only easier. As you recall, a square is a rectangle with four sides of EQUAL length. So, if we know the length of one side, we know the length of ALL sides…making our calculation very easy.
The formula for calculating the area of a square is to take the square of the base (b) or in other words, multiply the base times itself.
Here is an illustration:
So, for a square with base (b) of 7, the area of the square would be 7 x 7 = 49.
